Summary: | Educator and painter Shirley Woodson Reid was born March 3, 1936 in Pulaski, Tennessee. Reid graduated from Chadsey High School, in 1954, earned her B.F.A. degree from Wayne State University in 1958, and attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Reid finished her M.A. degree at Wayne State in 1966. She attended the historic CONFABA at Northwestern University in 1970. Reid worked for the Highland Park School District from 1966 to 1992. She taught at Wayne State University from 1996 to 2000 and served as art education supervisor for the Detroit Public Schools beginning in 1974. Reid became a board member of the National Conference of Artists and president of the Michigan chapter. She became a member of the Detroit Art Teachers Association, National Art Education Association and the Michigan Art Education Association. Reid's vibrant paintings are a part of twenty-two collections.
