Summary:Fashion illustrator and painter Glenn Tunstull was born on July 29, 1950, in Queens, New York. Tunstull's family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he attended Cass Technical High School, graduating in 1968. By 1973, Tunstull was illustrating for Vogue magazine, hired as the first and only African American illustrator at Women's Wear Daily. In 1975, Tunstull moved to Morocco, then Europe. He worked in Paris and Milan, creating fashion illustrations for the Hermes and Kenzo design houses. In 1977, Tunstull returned to New York City working for a variety of publications, including The New York Times. In the 1990s, Tunstull taught at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parson's School of Design. In 1996, Tunstull shifted his career focus to watercolor landscapes depicting scenes inspired by his travels, particularly trips to Brazil, Jamaica, Australia. Tunstull illustrated Sharon Shaver Gayle's children's book Kai: A Big Decision in 1997, and, in 2000, began working in oils.
