Summary:Educator and consultant Joyce Moore Gray was born in 1943 in Portsmouth, Virginia and graduated from Crestwood High School in 1961. She received her B.S. degree from Virginia State University, her M.Ed. degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and her Ed.D. degree from the University of Utah. In 1984, Gray became the first African American principal in the State of Utah after being named principal of Arcadia Elementary School. In 1992, Gray became principal of Bryant Intermediate School which was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and was honored in the White House where she met President Bill Clinton. In 1996, Gray was selected principal of West High School and became the first African American high school principal in Utah. Gray was selected Utah Principal of the Year in 1999. Gray worked as educational consultant and founded Jam G Consulting, Inc. where she served as president.
