Summary: | Entrepreneur and gospel singer Willie Lee Wilson was born on June 16, 1948 in Gilbert, Louisiana. Wilson began as a custodian and later became one of the first black owners of a McDonald's restaurant - owning five within two and a half years. In 1988, he founded and produced the first nationally syndicated African-American owned and produced Gospel program on commercial television that broadcasted internationally on WGN-TV. He also went on to sing Gospel music on his own and with the legendary Norfleet Brothers, creating four albums. A consummate entrepreneur, Wilson also founded Omar Medical Supplies, one of America's fastest growing international medical supply companies, and Gemini Electronics, a telecommunications company that assists churches and non-profits in economic development. He was the recipient of a Doctor of Divinity from Mt. Carmel Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Humane Letters from Chicago Baptist Institute and other honorary doctorates.
