Summary:Chemist and professor Albert N. Thompson, Jr. was born on October 31, 1946 in Columbia, South Carolina. After graduating from Phillis Wheatley, Sr. High School in Houston in 1964, Thompson enrolled at Texas Southern University. He received his B.S. degree in chemistry in 1973 and his M.S. degree in inorganic chemistry in 1975. Thompson then graduated from Howard University, where he received his Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry in 1979. Thompson worked as a chemistry professor at Fisk University and Fayetteville State University. In 1981, he was appointed as chair for Spelman College's Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Atlanta, Georgia. Thompson has received funding from several research and educational grants from such organizations as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), United States Air Force and the United States Army.
