Summary:Military officer and defense lawyer Colonel Will A. Gunn was born on December 14, 1958 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Gunn graduated with military honors with his B.S. degree in management from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1980. He graduated from Harvard Law School cum laude with his J.D. degree in 1986. Gunn earned his LL.M. degree in environmental law from George Washington University School of Law. His military education included graduation from Industrial College of the Armed Forces with his M.S. degree in national resource strategy in 2002. In 1990, Gunn served as White House Fellow and Associate Director of Cabinet Affairs. In 2003, Gunn served as the first chief defense counsel for the Department of Defense Office of Military Commissions. He supervised defense activities for detainees at Guantanamo Bay prison camp. Retiring from the military in 2005. Gunn was appointed general counsel of the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2009.
