Tipped in typed note from David Arkell to Michael [?] dated 26 February 1980: Thought you might be amused to have this batch of proofs rescued from Vanier's office in 1899. Dated 10-16 May 1894 they may have been destined for Felix Feneon, who was in prison at the time. He had been arrested as an anarchist on 25 April, so couldn't correct them ... aren't you glad you don't have this anarchist problem with your authors? At least not too many of them. ... PS. Best Wishes to Claire.
Lengthy former owner's French pencil inscriptions on front flyleaf and title page verso.
Manuscript pencil corrections throughout.
Binding: Red cloth over boards; untrimmed edges; binder's ticket: Zaehnsdorf Fine Bookbinders and Booksellers ... Our Job No: 1780 / Bound in full double [cut-off] warp buckram 21/10/75.
