Notes: | Cover title. Authorship attributed in tipped on manuscript letter from Charles Appleton. Stoddart mentions working on "a volume of poems ... under the designation of 'Periods of the mind'" in the autobiographical sketch printed in his 'Songs of the seasons and other poems', however he only describes one of the "effusions," entitled 'Yarrow', "the larger portion of which [was] written in the Scottish language." He does however mention that "of these effusions the main portions have been printed and circulated among friends." Consult Stoddart, T.T. Songs of the seasons and other poems (1881), page xlvi.
