Summary: | Cien años de identidad [One Hundred Years of Identity] is an advanced Spanish textbook and Latin American literature anthology, presenting 13 texts published bewteen 1889 and 1995 from 11 authors and 2 film directors that are designed both to introduce students to the richness of LA literature and introduce students to literary analysis through the theme of identity. The textbook adopts a thematic approach, focusing on key facets of literary and cultural criticism while using the texts to build students' vocabulary and cultural knowledge, to hone their reading and interpretive strategies, and to boost their oral and written communication. The textbook offers a wide variety of activities that lead students through literary analysis using a task-based approach. Unit themes: (1) Identity and race, ethnicity, gender, and class; (2) Existential identity; (3) Space and time and identity; (4) Political and sexual identity. Writers included: Isabel Allende, Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortazar, Rosario Castellanos, Judith Ortiz Cofer, Ruben Dario, Carlos Fuentes, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jose Marti, Manuel Puig, and Sergio Vodanovic. Directors: Tomas Gutierrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabio. Photos of each author/director are included, along with some figures for use in activities.
