Summary:The force of gravity slows objects that move up and steadily accelerates those that move down. It is what causes bodies to be drawn to the surface of the Earth and that distant bodies such as planets and stars experience a force that holds them together and in motion. The sculptural work of Mexican artist Jose Dávila (*1974) draws on these forces and shows the solidity and fragility of pieces of stone and glass. Stone blocks that are one on another in a constant balance of weights, characterized by the rigidity and regularity of their structures. Dávila's works create a powerful interplay of fragility and strength, balance and equilibrium. The publication The Elephant and the Feather presents his sculptural works from 2014 to 2017 including the current show at the Kunsthalle Hamburg. Exhibition: Hamburger Kunsthalle, Germany (02.06.2017- 10.06.2018).
