Summary: | Publication documenting an original exhibition of small-format works by Canadian painters whose careers collectively span six decades. Displayed together, these works highlight how creatively and imaginatively women have lent their voices to the continued reinvention of painting as a discipline relevant to our times. Artists were selected for their engagement in the process of painting. Each artist - or in the case of those who are deceased, their representative - was asked to select her own work for the exhibition, thereby creating a freedom of interpretation not usually tolerated in thematic exhibitions. The works belong together due to their exemplary approach to materials and the outcome is determined by the amalgamation of a diversity of narratives. Participants include well-known artists as well as those less celebrated but whose output is characterized by authenticity and an inventive use of paint. 00Exhibition: McClure Gallery at the Visual Arts Centre, Montréal, Canada (01.-24.02.2018).
