Summary:Nervalian poems keep the traces of an accumulation of scholarly knowledge. Odelettes of the 1830s are composed in the atmosphere that reigns around the July Revolution. The sonnets of 1841 reflect the psychic state of the host of the houses of health, but also the debates on poetry in the 1840s. The resumption of some sonnets in 1844 and 1845 is not without connection with the religious sentiment during this period. The two collections of odelettes and sonnets in 1852 aim to propose a renewal of French poetry. Finally, the poems of the Chimeras can be read as an achievement of this new poetic invented by Nerval. The overall goal of this study is to establish a face-to-face dialogue with Nerval, not to read it through images of madness, mysticism, or personal myth. We avoid, as far as possible, to project our own imaginary on worms; for this, we seek to highlight the knowledge of the time in which he lived, through which we try to recreate the point of view of his contemporary readers.--Honoré Champion.
