Summary: | For about twenty-five years Tom Chambers has explored the medium of photography to create photomontages which are inspired largely from travel in the American West, New England, Mexico, Italy, and Iceland. Photomontage is Tom's unique way to present unspoken stories which illustrate fleeting moments in time and which are intended to evoke a mood in the viewer. The feelings might range from tranquility to turbulence. Through the intentional use of magic realism, the photomontages look believable, but improbable. Each photomontage is carefully constructed, using both images that have been planned and those that unexpectedly enhance the story. Tom desires to move beyond documentation of the present, and rather seek to fuse reality and fantasy in musing about possibilities of the future. Over time Tom has completed nine photographic series, each with fifteen to twenty-five photographs which have been exhibited in more than twenty solo shows and about a hundred group exhibitions and art fairs.
