Summary:In addition to the urban and architectural characterization of the colonial Diamantina, the pressnet research accounts for the first steps of Iphan, identifying the procedures employed in that city for the delimitation of the fallen area and interventions in the old buildings and the modernization of the complex. The architectural and urban development of Diamantina, listed by Iphan in 1938, begins with an assessment of preservation practices in Brazil, its objectives and choices, and then addresses its development in the daily life of that city. In addition to characterizing the colonial Diamantina, the author speaks of the choices made by the Federal Preservation Agency (IPHAN) from 1938 to 1967, Iphan's first steps, identifying the procedures employed in that national heritageʺ city for the delimitation of the listed area and interventions in the buildings. old and modernizing the whole. The author explores the conflicts motivated by the development-preservation binomial and how this was the place of tensions: understandings and impositions related to the construction of a national identity, through the appropriation of goods selected by Iphan.
