| Summary: | Pubblicata in occasione dell'esposizione veneziana, la monografia riunisce opere recenti e nuovi pezzi del celebre artista astratto che ha creato una serie di nuove sculture, dipinti, disegni e acquerelli direttamente ispirati all'Abbazia di San Giorgio Maggiore dei monaci, alle loro vaste collezioni miniate di manoscritti e alla chiesa benedettina del XVI secolo. Opere caratterizzate dal vocabolario visivo istantaneo e riconoscibile di Scully delle strisce orizzontali e verticali, che rispecchia cinquanta anni di costante affinazione. Fulcro della mostra, la nuova e imponente Opulent Ascension, una scultura site-specific alta oltre dieci metri, realizzata dalla sovrapposizione di diversi moduli ricoperti da tessuto colorato: le diverse cromie suggeriscono visivamente i gradini di una scala monumentale, ascendente, che conduce verso l'alto e che rivela ben presto il genio dell'artista, sempre capace di sorprenderci con nuove formule stilistiche e richiami simbolici. Un'opera vertiginosa, carismatica che catalizza l'osservatore conducendolo al fulcro dell'idea creativa dell'artista e che incarna la convinzione di Scully che il suo lavoro possa fungere da canale tra il mondo fisico che possiamo vedere e quello trascendente a cui aspira l'anima. Published on the occasion of the Venetian exhibition, the monograph brings together recent works and new pieces by the famous abstract artist who has created a series of new sculptures, paintings, drawings and watercolors directly inspired by the Abbey of San Giorgio Maggiore of the monks, their vast collections illuminated manuscripts and the 16th century Benedictine church. Works characterized by Scully's instant and recognizable visual vocabulary of horizontal and vertical stripes, reflecting fifty years of constant refinement. Fulcrum of the exhibition, the new and imposing Opulent Ascension, a site-specific sculpture over ten meters high, created by overlapping different modules covered with colored fabric: the different colors visually suggest the steps of a monumental, ascending staircase that leads towards the 'high and which soon reveals the genius of the artist, always able to surprise us with new stylistic formulas and symbolic references. A dizzying, charismatic work that catalyzes the observer leading him to the fulcrum of the artist's creative idea and that embodies Scully's belief that her work can act as a channel between the physical world we can see and the transcendent one to which she aspires.
