Summary:The worldwide financial crisis, falling asset values, and an associated collapse in business and consumer confidence, have once again raised the specter of deflation. Governments and central banks have responded to the problems of financial institutions by introducing measures to deal with both liquidity and solvency problems. At the same time, central banks have cut their policy rates to counter the increased credit risk premiums and many governments are implementing fiscal stimulus to support aggregate demand.
