Summary:1. Aruba, which is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is a small, open Caribbean island with nearly 96,000 inhabitants. The economy is highly dependent on tourism, which generates 43 percent of GDP in export revenues. Strong legal institutions, good governance and openness have brought the country stability and rapid development, and Aruba's per capita GDP ($21,200) is now one of the highest in the region. However, the heavy dependence on tourism also renders the economy vulnerable to external shocks.
