Summary: | The Research Group MODOS -História da Arte: Modos Ver, Exibir e Compreender- (Art History: Way to View, Display and Understand it) has as one of its premises is to rethink ways of writing art history, seeking to discuss them through specific questions, abandoning traditional evolutionary, chronological and universalist practices. Each annual meeting, held in different Brazilian cities (and also in Portugal), brings a theme considered significant for the field, calling on several researchers to critically analyze the issues raised, concentrating the debate on a certain issue related to art. The intention is to offer, from the meetings, publications that replace the old general histories of art, focusing on plurality - art histories (in the plural) - and the relations of artistic production with the theory and historiography of art. In this publication, the museum is the main topic and is not being debated only as a place for exhibition and filing. Museological institutions come to be understood as spaces for the constitution of different artistic histories (in the diminutive of plural), important for the circulation of artistic, critical and historiographic production dedicated to instituting how we perceive, interpret and disseminate artistic production, affirming its potential for make the visible legible.
