Abstract in English.
Summary:"Since the foundation of the Imperial Public Library (now the National Library of Russia) and until the middle of the XIX century, i.e. during the early period of the development of domestic Oriental studies, at the time when its research source base was being created, the Library acquired about a thousand oriental manuscripts, woodblock printed books and drawings, the descriptions of which were included in the consolidated printed catalogue edited by B.A. Dorn. The chapters of this book, arranged chronologically according to the time of acquisition of the materials described there, are dedicated to the ways they were acquired and the role played by Russian emperors in replenishing the collection, to the reconstruction of particular private collections and the biographies of their collectors, to the individual masterpieces of the arts of the book from the countries of the East, primarily Iran and China, and to the history of the description and study of oriental manuscripts. The most interesting of the archival documents are published, while illustrations help to create a view of the variety of forms and artistic features of handwritten books originating from different linguistic and regional traditions"--Title page verso.
