Provenance: | Author's inscription and signature on half-title page : Meg Villars--her book. Radclyffe Hall. This day the honor of my book was vindicated in the court of special sessions, New York. April 19th 1929. Laid in "Note regarding the Well of Loneliness" from Paul Lewis, dated 1 October, 2020. From dealer's description: The recipient was an actor and author, née Marguerite Maniez, who is notable as a friend of Colette, for a period of time belonging in a ménage with her and Willy (i.e., Henri Gauthier-Villars), and then becoming the latter's second wife. The link to Colette is an appealing one, with the salon of Natalie Clifford Barney perhaps the site of the acquaintance of Villars and Radclyffe Hall--the latter having there also befriended Colette. Barney is the basis for the character Valérie Seymour in this novel. Binding (from dealer's description) : Original black cloth, recased and rebacked, preserving the original backstrip cloth. $5 ICU
