| Summary: | "The aim of this book is to provide psychologists with a convenient and comprehensive guide to the field of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), its domains and primary modalities, the ethics of integrating CAM into psychological practice, and a critical review of the quality of the current evidence for each commonly used modality. CAM comprises a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not currently considered part of conventional medicine (P.M. Barnes, Powell-Griner, McFann, & Nahin, 2004). Defining CAM can be challenging because the field is broad and perpetually evolving; it includes diverse practices such as yoga, mindfulness meditation, acupuncture, and herbal therapies, as well as whole systems approaches such as traditional Chinese medicine. Furthermore, a distinction can be made between complementary medicine and alternative medicine.
