Summary:The book examines the history of the development and settlement of the World Arctic; analyzes approaches to the study of demographic problems and population settlement of Arctic territories; considers the features of population formation and the specifics of its settlement; explains the differentiation of Arctic territories by population density and economic development. The authors propose a methodology for defining pivotal settlements, which made it possible to classify urban settlements. The book examines in detail the local labor markets, gives their classification by type of economic activity. Considerable attention is paid to the migration of the population of the Russian Arctic. The authors have highlighted the main models and preferred migration routes. Human development and the prospects for the formation of a knowledge economy in the Russian Arctic are described on the basis of the municipal human development index.
