| Summary: | The film chronicles the varied lives of the Lin family during the turbulent four years between the Japanese withdrawal from Taiwan (after 50 years of occupation) in 1945, and the Nationalist government's loss of mainland China in 1949. This is the first Taiwanese film to broach the subject of the most traumatic experience in Taiwan's history, the February 28 Incident in 1947.
