Summary: | "In March 2017, Rita Ponce de León presented in proyectoAmil Lima the installation titled Impermanent Sculpture [Escultura impermanente]. During four months, the two galleries of the space were inhabited by enigmatic and subtle drawings and murals, as well as by silent sculptures and a series of interactive pieces. Among the latter I remember How to disappear a door? a series of mobile structures made of wooden and metal frames that could be manipulated by the public. These structures made me think of stretcher or, even, of swinging portals that arbitrated the space between the two galleries, containing the hollow space. In one of our conversations, I told Rita that her project made me think of a stage. Yes and no, she told me; since a stage defines the experiences and reactions. Impermanent Sculpture, on the other hand, was less interested in choreographing the movements and sensations of its spectators, and more in discovering questions and voids. Void like the hollow space contained in How to disappear a door?. This catalog displays the drawings that were part of the exhibition at proyectoAmil, made by the artist in Yokohama, Japan, during a residency in which she deepened her practice in butoh, a post-war art that does not follow a model, but accepts and celebrates the lack of meaning. In addition, the publication includes a text by Rita herself about this experience." -Page 11.
