Manuscript marginalia in Manchu (and occasionally Roman letters) throughout, as well as manuscript Manchu and Chinese on tipped-in and laid-in paperslips.
Stamps on the feet of the volumes and on case read "676."

Summary:Compilation of 120 Manchu monolingual "old man's tales," which the author, Sungyun (1752-1835) of the Marat clan, claims to have heard from the elders as he was growing up. Topics range from ordinary political, military, and domestic affairs to more scholastic ones such as classical learning, translation, philosophy, and history. The eight volumes are named after the eight hexagrams.
