This is the original version of the poem which follows the text of the holographic manuscript in the Caresse Crosby Papers which Crosby offered to Transition as a filler for a 2-page portion of the magazine set aside for his work. Editor Eugene Jolas took portions of the text which he edited into a shortened 8-part sequence which appeared in Transition no. 18, November 1929. RA. The present text follows that of an unpublished typescript in the Caresse Crosby Papers. The new word. An unpublished alternate version of The new word (see Transition no. 16-17, June 1929) from a type-script in teh Caresse Crosby Papers"--Notes on the text.
