Description based on online resource; title from home page (viewed on April 9, 2019).
Summary:Prepared and produced by the White Earth Oral History Project, The Leading Feather was published between 1982 and 1985. Detailed and imaginative cover illustrations are perhaps one of the most striking aspects of this title; featuring superb black and white line art, they are among the most visually arresting covers in the American Indian Newspapers collection. A regular feature of the newspaper was "Elders Corner", a column detailing the lives of older community members and reporting related historic events. Letters to the Editor are featured in each edition and articles on the history of the Ojibwe, or Chippewa peoples are also common; for example, in one of the issues featured in this resource, an 1867 "Treaty with the Chippewa"is reprinted.
