Chromolithograph on front cover features anthropomorphic images of a crane teaching a group of animals including a bear, lion, owl, pig, rabbit, monkey, crow, and kitten. Cover title. "Book no. 1." transposed from foot of cover. Some illustrations copyrighted 1897 by McLoughlin Bros. Copy in hand bears an inscription dated 1897. "A few practical instructions for young painters."--p. [2] of wrapper. Instructions detail the use of watercolor paints."
