Summary:January 19, 1834 report of James Herron, civil engineer, of a survey for a railroad and M'adamized turnpike between the Tennessee line and the James and Kanawha River improvement. Of note, a macadam road was composed of a compacted sub-grade of crushed granite or greenstone, covered stone (no more than six ounces each) to absorb wear and tear and shed water to the drainage ditches. Included are numerous tables, and other relevant documents, in order to determine which method would be best for the state. Also included is a report of the Select Committee of the Abingdon Rail-Road Convention, August 27, 1831.
