Summary: | The Georgian Parliamentary Election, 2016 was held on October 8 amidst a rising public distrust towards the political establishment and foreign policy challenges emanating mostly from Georgia's northern neighbor, the Russian Federation. The unceasing mutual recriminations by country's two leading parties was compounded by the underperforming economy and the fast-rising cost of living, creating a politically charged electoral environment. Despite these and similar challenges, however, the elections were assessed by international observers to be free and fair. With all votes counted, the ruling Georgian Dream party won nearly 49% of the votes with the opposition United National Movement coming in second with just above 27% of the votes cast. Although some parties that showed poorly at the polls questioned the results, their appeals were not successful. The present database represents the most comprehensive collection of election ephemera from the 2016 Georgian parliamentary elections. They include hundreds of flyer, posters, leaflets, mailers and other campaign materials numbering over 2,500 pages in three of Georgia's major languages - Georgian, Armenian, and Azeri.
