Summary:The international exhibition is a significant synthesis of the artistic stages of the masterful artist Petrona Viera (Uruguay 1895-1960), considered a precursor of Uruguayan artistic modernity, and one of the most relevant creators in the history of plastic arts in Uruguay. Through a set of 26 works, the exhibition aims to cover her technical research and her various thematic approaches: the scarce visited world of childhood (games, dances, walks and secrets outside the adult world), landscapes -which border on stripped abstraction-, and her portraits, nudes -unusual in Uruguayan art. These themes are presented in various techniques: pastels, oils, engravings, drawings. "The exhibition proposal that is presented covers forty years of uninterrupted creation, belonging to the collection of the Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales del Uruguay (MNAV) which contains a thousand and one works by the artist. These were received almost entirely through family donation and their set makes up the largest collection of the Museum. Many of the works exhibited have never been shown to the public, except for some significant examples that have always been part of the exhibited selections of Uruguayan art."
