Dramatizing an episode from the well-known Theban legend, the play depicts the devastating conflict between Antigone and her uncle Creon, the new ruler of Thebes, over the right to burial of her brother Polyneices, a member of the royal family who has turned against the city and attacked it by force. The play is accompanied by an Introduction and annotations by the editor and translator, Sheila Murnaghan.
