English summary.
Summary:Two important claims about Iceland's history are investigated. One is that Ingólfur Arnarson settled in Kvosinn in Reykjavík and his farmstead can be found there. The other is that Flóki Vilgerðarson gave Iceland its name. The author's conclusion is that neither of these claims stand up to critical scrutiny.
