Notes: | Includes index. The Reformed Presbyterian Church split in 1833 into two denominations: (1)--Reformed Presbyterian Church in North America. General Synod, and (2) Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America. Synod. Each considered itself the true continuation of their common antecedent. This work was published by the first. Only the second of the two still exists (1987). Reformed Presbytery; re-organized as a single presbytery in 1798 from the few churches that had refused to merge with the Associate Presbytery; a synod was organized in 1809 and given the name of church; the Synod divided into subordinate synods in 1831; in 1833 it separated into Old Light and New Light factions, each of which initially claimed to be the one true Reformed Presbyterian Church; the names of these bodies fluctuated throughout the 1830's as Reformed Presbyterian Church in/of North America/America/United States, but soon settled on the names: Synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, and Reformed Presbyterian Church in North America, General Synod (Old and New Light, respectively). committed to retain from JKM Seminaries Library 2023 JKM University of Chicago Library
