Notes: | The Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church began work in Japan in 1950 partly as a result of the reassignment of missionaries from China. The Augustana Lutheran Mission Japan, was organized to deploy and support its missionaries, but not to organize an independent Lutheran Church in Japan. The mission chose, instead, to cooperate from the beginning with the Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church and whenever a congregation was organized it became a part of that church body. In 1960 the Sanyo District was re-named the Chugoku District in order to reflect the broader area it then covered. committed to retain from JKM Seminaries Library 2023 JKM University of Chicago Library
