Notes: | Mimeographed. The National Lutheran Council (NLC) was established on September 6, 1918 as a common agency of participating Lutheran church bodies to administer domestic programs, publicize Lutheran activities and beliefs, and provide overseas emergency relief to areas devastated by World War I. Its Department of World Mission Cooperation was established in 1956 under the newly created Division of Lutheran World Federation Affairs in order to cooperate with and assist the Lutheran World Federation's Department of World Mission (LWF-DWM) in its activities; receive and study reports and estimates of needs from the LWF-DWM headquarters and to make appropriate recommendations for action; recommend the allocation of available funds; supervise missions which may be assigned by the LWF-DWM to the NLC, acting as the U.S.A. National Committee for the LWF; and to cooperate with the Lutheran Foreign Mission Conference of North America. Cf.
