Summary:This practice guide seeks to help attorneys new to estate administration understand the Maine probate code. This guide draws from the experience and writings of the authors plus the LexisNexis publication "Maine probate procedure" by the Hon. James E. Mitchell and Philip C. Hunt. In 2019, Maine lawmakers adopted LD 123, An Act to Recodify and Revise the Maine Probate Code. The new probate code is codified in Title 18-C of the Maine revised statutes and was a significant update to the existing law. The new Probate Code took effect on September 1, 2019.
