Summary:本书从"近代中国知识与制度转型"的角度切入, 通过考察清代民国长江上游航道图志编绘的历史过程, 重新评价了传统长江上游航道图志的文本价值, 进而思考近代航道图志编绘转型与川江内河航运变迁的互动关系. 研究表明, 近代中国地图学对西方测绘技术与制图知识的认同与接受, 是一场由西方文化传播者与本土地图绘制者共同参与的、颇为复杂的"在地化"知识生产过程. 只有充分认识"传统"与"现代性"之间的复杂性, 才能真正重建中国地图史学对"现代性"问题的阐释体系. 同时, 只有折中"全盘现代"与"本土传统"两者之间, 关注晚清以降"现代传统"的创制过程, 才能重新找寻中国社会走向"现代性"的历史路径与具体方式.
