Summary:Report of the Louisiana State Engineer in response to Joint Resolution No. 38. As noted in the report, "The resolution requires of the State Engineer 'a plan for preventing the influx or passage of drift of any kind from the Mississippi into the Bayou Plaquemine, together with an estimate of the probable cost of such works, or remedy as he may advise; provided however, that no such plan shall be recommended as shall have for its object or effect the stoppage of influx or efflux of waters, or any interruption to the free navigation of said bayou to and from the river.'" The report is addressed to the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Louisiana, and is signed by Louis Hebert, State Engineer, Baton Rouge, La., March 2d, 1857.
