Summary:A major reference work for the study of one of the leading figures of the Latin American avant-garde of the 20th century, Joaquin Torres Garcia. Curated by Aimé Iglesias Lukin, chief curator of Visual Arts at the Americas Society of New York, a specialist in Latin American art, and Cecilia Rabossi, professor and art critic, who through a wide and exquisite selection of works, propose a contemporary approach to the complexity of his thought. The work includes an exhaustive and fundamental chronology by Didier Calvar, Doctor in Art History and Cultural Management at the Pablo de Olavide University of Seville. It has the participation of the Ministry of Culture, higher education centers of Uruguay, prestigious museums, among other references of national culture. The book includes 140 works, some of which have not been previously exhibited, and an artistic and geographical overview of his work. The commemorative homage of the 150th birth anniversary, which began in the MACA (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Atchugarry), the first of a series of exhibitions, is a tribute to the outstanding legacy of artist Joaquín Torres Garcia. These exhibitions will take place later throughout 2024 in the MNAV, Museo Nacional de Artes; MTG, Museo Torres García Visuales, both in Montevideo and at the MNBA, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires. These exhibitions have the collaboration and support of the collection of GALERIA SUR.
