Summary:In an interview interspersed with performance excerpts, Mark Dendy discusses his family background; his childhood performances; his dance studies and development as a dancer and choreographer. He offers vivid descriptions or anecdotes about the many personalities with whom he studied or performed, among them Martha Graham, Ruby Shang, Klarna Pinska, Simone Forti, Pooh Kaye, Pearl Lang, and Phyllis Lamhut. In discussing his current dance-theater work, which often draws upon his southern background, he talks about his collaboration with Jane Comfort on her work Deportment, and his own piece Busride to Heaven, in which he plays both male and female characters.
