Summary:The English Lake District is one of the most spectacular areas in the country, as mountains tumble downward to the sea, forming a mighty backdrop to one of Great Britain's great railway journeys. This trip forms a circuit around Cumbria and the Lake District. Beginning at Carnforth, home to Steamtown Carnforth, we head north through Oxenholme to Staveley and then onto Windermere and the Windermere Steamboat Museum. We continue on to Cark, with its stately home and Motor Museum, then on to Ulverston, the birthplace of Stan Laurel, and home to the Laurel & Hardy Museum. As the journey draws to a close, we visit the beautiful city of Carlisle.
