Summary:Barney is ten years old and, with only his older sister for company, is spending a lonely summer with his grandparents. One day while wandering, he is chased by the village bullies and tumbles down an overgrown quarry. There, in the magical world of the quarry floor, he meets a figure with shaggy hair and two bright eyes. Stig is a caveman, hundreds of thousands years old, but gradually he and Barney learn to understand one another. Together they raid the rubbish dump at the bottom of the quarry, using the things the villagers throw away to improve Stig's cave. So begins a special friendship, and a story which has charmed children and adults alike ever since it was first published in 1963. Barney and Lou help Stig to move from his cave at the old Quarry to a new home at Scraper Low. The next day, it's time for them to move themselves, to a new house with their mum.
