This two-volume work (1st ed., CH, Nov'80) spans the entire field of environmental health beginning with humans and their ecosystems, and covering both traditional topics such as food protection and sanitation and newer areas of air and water quality and hazardous waste. The author recognizes the relationship between human population growth and environmental degradation. The work is described, perhaps ambiguously, as both a "comprehensive" and "concise" discussion of "each of the important environmental health areas." Koren (Indiana State University) adequately addresses definitions, principles, and basic concepts, with varying technical detail in many cases, the treatment being appropriate for a general audience. The two volumes are paginated, indexed, and priced independently, yet neither volume stands alone (except that volume 2 covers mainly water). This valuable, well-referenced resource for practitioners and advanced students in the field is recommended for academic, professional, and large public library collections.-M.
