Summary:This atlas originated in the days when, first in Holland and then in Belgium and France, the German armies were winning victory upon victory. Originally conceived as an Atlas of War, the momentous events of that period transformed it into an Atlas of Victory. The birth of the New Europe, and the far-reaching changes that are bound to take place, not merely on the Continent but beyond its boundaries, are an inevitable result of the new ideas and the shifts in power that have determined this war from both a military and a political point of view. It is the purpose of this work to record these conditions comprehensively. As soon as the victory is finally won this atlas will be followed by a second, the Atlas of Peace, which will also depict the events of the past history from which present conditions have logically developed. - Introduction.
