Summary: | Drower was a novelist and anthropologist specializing in the study of the Mandaean religious group of Iraq and Iran. Some discussion of these people are included in this book, especially in the chapter "A Peculiar People." The book is in five parts: Shrines and Shrine Cities, Buried Cities, Secular Cities, Cults, and People and Aspects. Two appendices contain "The Sacred Books of the Yazidis" and "Full Ritual of a Subba Baptism."
