Summary:Gives an account of the trial, carried out in Venice in 1637, of members of the Jewish community and of the Venetian low nobility. The trial focused on briberies paid by Jewish solicitors to members of the Venetian tribunals in order to buy favors. The sentence of the "Consiglio dei Dieci, " the highest court of Venice, punished the guilty persons, and banned any Jew, from then on, from acting as a solicitor at the Venetian tribunals. Asserts that this trial undermined the atmosphere of tolerance of Jews existing until then, and strengthened, at government level, the influence of the nobility who were hostile to the Jews and close to the Papal States.
