Reprints: [1st ser.] v. 1 (416 p.) 1831, was reprinted with correctins and additions by Wm. Willis and an index (566 p.) with imprint: Portland, Bailey & Noyes, 1865. A page for page reprint of [1st ser.] v. 2 was made in 1902, with 3 pages of notes and corrections at the end.
In 1869, between v. 6 (1859) and v. 7 (1876) of the 1st series, the society started another series, "Documentary history of the state of Maine", which is still in course of publication. Some confusion has arisen from the fact that the volumes of that series have as half-title "Collections of the Maine Historical Society, 2d series."
First series was published irregularly 1831-1887, with index volume in 1892. Beginning with 1890 the society maintained a "Quarterly", the parts for each year being provided with a t.-p. and bound as "Collections and proceedings", 2d ser., v. 1-10. This form of publication was discontinued in 1899. The 3d series of "Collections", beginning in 1904, appears irregularly and in bound form only; while the "Proceedings" since November 1899 have appeared in an annual pamphlet, separately.

Cumulative Index / Finding Aids Note:Indexes: In the 1st series, only v. 9 and the 1865 reprint of v. 1 have individual indexes; v. 10 is a combined index for the series (including the 1865 reprint of v. 1); Beginning with the 2d series each volume has its own index, and there is no general index volume.
