Summary: | Contains English medieval manorial rolls including charters, muniments of title, compotus rolls, court rolls, account rolls, rentals, and other documents which chronicle the agricultural, legal, social, and financial activities of the estates acquired by Sir Nicholas Bacon, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal under Queen Elizabeth, in the mid-sixteenth century. Records exist for the Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds, Redgrave Hall, Mettingham College, Burgate, and other manors in Suffolk, Norfolk, and Essex. Sir Nicholas's son acquired more estates whose documents are also included. Subsequent generations increased estate records until the end of the 17th century when Sir Thomas Hold purchased most of the Bacon properties.
