Notes: | The Lettres portugaises are supposed to have been written to Noël Bouton, marquis de Chamilly. The French translation of the lost Portuguese originals have been ascribed to G. J. de Lavergne de Guilleragues and also to Subligny. The letters themselves are generally ascribed to Marianna Alcoforado; in this edition they are ascribed to G. J. de Lavergne de Guilleragues.
